Thursday 8 September 2011 – Eigg to Tobermory

At last it appears as if we will have a day suitable for a passage somewhere.  It no longer seems a good idea to go N to Skye as the weather is forecast to be from the S for several days, so there would be further to come back against the wind.  Also there is a whole queue of depressions lined up, one of which is expected to produce gale force winds.  So we need to be somewhere sheltered, preferably with good strong moorings or pontoons.

However we could not leave early but had to wait for the tide to come in.  We left at 2:30, followed by the big boat on the wall somewhat later, and the French boat much later.  We could just lay Ardnamurchan Point close hauled and made good progress under single reefed main and full genoa with reasonable sea state.  We moored at a pontoon berth at Tobermory to enjoy a bit of comfort with water and electricity at hand.  There is a definite end-of-season feeling here with most of the pontoon spaces empty and the town much quieter than before.

Maybe tomorrow we will visit the distillery and then head S to Dunstaffnage. Follow the track on Google Maps.
