Wed 1 June 2011–Wells to Grimsby

Last time we passed this way we had to leave at lunchtime which was most inconvenient. This time we have the tide at the right time of day.  High Water is 06:42, which means we can leave at high water and have a full day available for sailing.  However today the wind seemed too light to be of use, weather was sunny and cool but with clear blue sky – looks as if we will need to do a lot of motoring.

Our informant from “Bonnie Mac” of Grimsby said “just head for the DZ3 buoy” and gave various tips about the anchorage at Spurn Point.

Wind Farm Construction off Skegness
On eventually leaving the very tortuous channel to the Fairway Buoy we were pleased to find the wind was SW4 – full sail at last! We saw a lot of sea, no fishing boats or gear or anything else of interest until the wind farm off Skegness, which had a construction barge nearby, but even this seemed to be asleep.  Approaching the Donna Nook range, it looked as if we had to go a mile or 2 downwind to clear it.  However they let us through as the range was not in use.

Entered the old Fish Dock at Grimsby very soon after opening time. Soon tied up in the marina run by the Humber Cruising Association.

We have now officially entered “The North”. This is clear because everyone is more friendly and chatty than we are accustomed to in the South.

166 miles done. 462 miles to go.  Follow the track on Google Maps
