Thursday 2 June 2011 - Grimsby to Bridlington

We had really planned to go to Scarborough, and had got used to the idea of leaving harbour and being swept along by a useful, sometimes boisterous, wind.  Today was different: high pressure, hardly any wind and a bit of mist.  We don't regard Grimsby as a great tourist destination, in spite of the friendly welcome we received at the Humber Cruising Association, and we want to make distance north, so we would just have to motor.  After hours of motoring we decided that we would be against the tide round Flamborough Head, so diverted to Bridlington.

Speedboat ride - Bridlington
This is a seaside town full of half term families having a sunny day at the seaside.  The best attractions are 2 huge Hunton speedboats which do joyrides outside the harbour, blasting around and just coming off the plane in the narrow harbour entrance.  Also pirate ship and traditional boat trips to see wildlife on Flamborough Head.  Funfair, fish and chips and masses of slot machine places.
